Why did you become an Ecopreneur? (Setting Your Goals)
As you move forward in your Ecopreneur training, it's important to understand what attracted you to this business in the first place. We an incredible business system, a great business model with an outstanding renewable energy service, and tremendous tools to help you build your business. All of those are critically important distinctions that make this opportunity stand out. But it's NOT why you decided to become an Ecopreneur and build your solar energy business.
You may have decided to join for a very personal reason. The reasons people join are as different as the people joining. You want to have financial freedom; you're a mom who wants to stay home with your kids; you're a college kid who wants to graduate without educational debts; you're retired and want more than you have now; you want to spend more time with your family, you want to make a difference and really do something about Global Warming... we could go on and on, but we think you have the picture.
The question is…WHY did you join the Ecopreneur Crew? It's important! A key part of achieving success in your solar energy business is really knowing what you want to achieve from a business perspective. Yes, this is where we're going to spend some time talking about goals. You may have done this before. But did you do it right?
Goals will be KEY to your success. The unconscious mind is constantly processing information in such a way as to move us in particular directions. Even at the unconscious level, the mind is distorting, deleting, and generalizing. So before the mind can work efficiently, we must develop our perception of the outcomes we expect to reach. When the mind has a defined target, it can focus and direct and refocus and redirect until it reaches its intended goal. If it doesn't have a defined target, its energy is squandered. It's like the person with the world's greatest chainsaw who has no idea why he's standing in the forest!
Setting your business goals is an imperative! When you know the outcome you want, you give your brain a clear picture of which kinds of information being received by the nervous system need high priority. You give it the clear messages it needs to be effective.
Before we take some definite steps we want to ask you a question. If you knew you could not fail, what would you do? If you were absolutely certain of success, what activities would you pursue, what actions would you take?
Here's one thing to plant firmly in your mind. Results are inevitable. If you don't provide your mind with the programming of the results you desire, someone else will provide that programming for you. If you don't have your own plan, someone else is going to make you fit into their plan.
The following exercise is adapted from Anthony Robbin's book Unlimited Power. We highly recommend it. Let this be your first indicator that we are going to be encouraging you to become a student of both business and successful living during the next 90 days. How you approach your business in the beginning will be a good indicator of where you are going to take it in the future.
Here 5 Rules to Help Create Your Goals:
1. State your goal in positive terms. Say what you want to happen; not what you don't want to happen. Don’t say, “Well, I don’t want to be poor anymore.” You just programmed POOR into your mind. Instead, say, “I want to be Financially Free – making at least $200,000 a year.” Your mind will now work to achieve the goal of what you WANT.
2. Be as specific as possible. Engage all your senses in describing your outcome. Also, be certain to set a specific completion date.
3. Have an evidence procedure. You can be winning and feel like you're losing if you don't keep score.
4. Be in control. Your goal must be initiated and maintained by you - not be dependent upon other people's actions or non-actions.
5. Verify that your goal is ecologically sound and desirable. Simply put, make sure it is one that benefits you and other people.
Take some time now to create your life as you want it to be. Create your business as you want it to be. We realize you are taking time away from "sharing the business," but are you really? You're taking this time to share your complete vision of your business with your subconscious mind - the part of you that will carry you to success.
1 - Start by making an inventory of your dreams - the things you want to have, do, be and share. Don't try to define how you're going to accomplish it now. Just write it down. There are no limits. Don't move on until you have made your list. Make it extensive! Remember, you're creating your life here.
2 - Go over the list you made, estimate when you expect to reach those outcomes. Six months, one year, two years, five years, ten years, twenty years. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. It's important to be aware of the both the first steps and the final ones.
3 - Pick out the four most important goals for you this year. Write down why you absolutely will achieve them. Be clear, concise and positive. Tell yourself why you're sure you can reach those outcomes, and why it's important that you do. If you can find enough reasons to do something, you can get yourself to do anything. Reasons are the difference between being interested in something versus being committed to accomplishing something. If you get a big enough why, you can always figure out the how.
4 - Now that you have a list of your key goals, review them against the five rules for formulating outcomes (the 5 we gave you above). Change any that you need to fit.
5 - Make a list of the important resources you already have at hand. Make a list of what you have going for you: character traits, friends, financial resources, education, time, energy, or whatever.
6 - Now describe what kind of person you will have to be to attain your goals. We hear a lot about success, but we don't hear as much about the components of success - the attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that go into producing it. If you don't have a good grasp of the components, you may find it difficult to put together the whole, so stop now and write a couple of paragraphs or a page about all the character traits, skills, attitudes, beliefs and disciplines you will need to have as a person to achieve all that you desire.
7 - Write down what prevents you from having the things you want right now. We all have ways of limiting ourselves, our own strategies for failing, but by recognizing your past limitation strategies, you can change them now. We can know what we want, why we want it, who will help us, and a lot of other things, but the critical ingredient that in the end determines whether we succeed in achieving our outcomes is our actions. We must create a step by step plan. What are the necessary actions you must take consistently to produce the results you desire?
8 - Take the time now to take each of your key goals and create your first draft of a step-by-step plan on how to achieve it. Make sure your plans include something you can do TODAY, TOMORROW, and into the FUTURE!
9 - What's the surest way to achieve excellence? It's to model someone who has already done what you want to do. So come up with some models. You can save time and energy, and avoid traveling down wrong paths by following the example of people who've succeeded already. Come up with the models for all the areas of your life you want to change now.
